Description
ORIGINAL WORLD WAR ONE U.S. ARMY BAND DRUM 77TH INFANTRY DIVISION. Rare find just out of an old estate! The drum is unit marked on the top skin to "3RD PLATOON CO B 307TH INFANTRY" (3rd Platoon of Company B, 307 Infantry Regiment of the 77th Infantry "Liberty" Division). The markings look to be neatly hand done in black paint. The drum body is constructed of wood with and eagle & U.S. shield motif on one side. I could not find a maker mark on the drum. The drum is in overall good condition for being over 100 years old but does present some condition issues. Most notably is the top skin has a break through the unit markings, probably due to shrinkage over decades of storage. The bottom skin is fully intact. Most of the ropes are intact but one small length has broken and another shows fray. 4 of the leather adjustment slides used to pull the ropes taught are intact, the others are either missing the leather pull tabs from the slides or are missing entirely. The entire drum shows a nice even age patina and has never been cleaned or repaired. Measures 16 inches across X 12 inches high. Also included are the original drumsticks that were found with the drum. One of the sticks has a broken tip that has been glued back in place. Overall a scarce opportunity to add this fantastic piece of Great War history to your collection! I looked around but could not find another offered for sale past or present, truly a rare find!***CHECK OUT MY OTHER LISTINGS FOR MORE VINTAGE MILITARIA***
